El insólito mensaje de apoyo de Bill Cosby a Harvey Weinstein: atacó directamente al #MeToo

A horas que se conociera la condena a Harvey Weinstein por violación y agresión sexual, el productor de cine recibió un inesperado apoyo desde la cárcel.

Se trata del célebre comediante Bill Cosby, otro símbolo de las denuncias por abuso sexual en la industria del espectáculo estadounidense, quien por estos días cumple condena en Pensilvania.

“Es un día triste para el sistema judicial americano”, se lee en el mensaje que pidió divulgar en redes sociales a través de su representante, Andrew Wyatt.

Sobre la resolución del caso de Weinstein, Cosby fue explícito y arrojó una teoría al respecto: “No es sorprendente porque estos jurados tuvieron acceso a la cobertura de los medios y a la opinión pública. No hay forma de que nadie creyera que Mr. Weinstein iba a recibir un juicio justo e imparcial”, apuntó.

En su opinión, el juicio también demostró que “el juez quería una condena para enviar a los jurados a deliberar de nuevo, puesto que ellos quitaron muchos de los cargos”.

En la sentencia que será dictada el próximo 11 de marzo, Harvey Weinstein podría recibir hasta 29 años en la cárcel por los delitos antes mencionados, luego que fuera condenado por dos de los cinco cargos que se le atribuían.

Tal como argumentó en su propia defensa, Cosby ve aquí una “persecución” contra el fundador del estudio Miramax.

“Aquí está la pregunta que debería perseguir a todos los americanos, especialmente a los hombres ricos y famosos: ¿A dónde vamos en este país para encontrar justicia e imparcialidad en el sistema judicial y dónde encuentran un proceso como es debido?“, dijo el estadounidense, denunciado por más de 50 mujeres por abuso, agresión sexual o violación.

En el último tramo del mensaje, el comediante emplazó directamente al movimiento #MeToo, originado en octubre de 2017 a raíz del caso Weinstein y las numerosas denuncias de agresión y acoso sexual en la industria del entretenimiento.

“Retaría al movimiento #MeToo a regresar más de 400 años atrás y manchar los nombres de los opresores que violaron a los esclavos“, sostuvo Cosby, preso en Pensylvannia desde septiembre de 2018 por una condena que va entre los 3 y 10 años de prisión.

For Immediate Release – Official Statement: Today, Mr. Cosby’s legal team filed a Petition in the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania asking the high court to review his case to consider the vital important questions about the impact of #metoo hysteria on the bedrock principles of our criminal justice system. The lower courts stripped Mr. Cosby of his most sacred constitutional guarantees of Due Process and the presumption of innocence when they permitted the jury to hear, and base its verdict on, decades-old, unproven allegations of multiple women. The trial court’s overriding concern should have been to ensure a fair proceeding on the single charged offense for which Mr. Cosby was standing trial – not to provide a platform to any and all accusers who belatedly wanted their day in court.
