According to information of the immigration department of the Police of Investigation (PDI), the clandestine access to Chile, through the northern frontier with Perú, reached an average of 3 peoples for every two days.

Despite of the danger due to the presence of anti-personnel mines along the place, Chacalluta still being the illegal preferred entry of the country, followed by the Hito 1, at the coast, and the tracks from the international train, which connect Arica with Tacna.

This situation is of concern to Chilean and the Peruvian authorities. Thus, Peru announced the reinforcement of 10 km. of the international limit with Chile, to impede the illegal mobility of people, as well as the drugs trafficking.

Among the initiatives were listed the increase of depth of the security ditches, and the amount and height of mounds, which are going to be modified to 1.5 meters height.

This 4.2 km of stretch, known as of ” high complexity” by the Northern Frontier Plan of the country, reported more than 6.200.000 migratory controls per year, and only during 2016, 94 people have been arrested by the police, by illegal access to Chile.
