Chilean Government confirms shelter for Syrian families

The Interior and Foreign Affairs Ministries, have confirmed the Government has been starting the necessary record¬īs inspection in order to provide, in brief, shelter to the Syrian families which are seeking for refuge.

Chancellery has told they are working in parallel to facilitate and accelerate the visa process for the Syrian citizen which have been applying for it. Between 2014 and 2015, they have conceded 277 tourist and residence visas to Syrian nationals.

Presently, the national institutions, in cooperation with the involved international organizations, are working to identify the services the Chilean Government must to provide to the Syrian citizen , with the purpose of concede them an appropriate reception in the country.

Chile has more than fifteen years of experience receiving groups of people coming from conflictive zones. Those programs considers the cultural and social complexities and in like manner the times of accompany and integration needed for a successful process. Stated the Minrel.

The PPD representative, Jorge Tarud, member of the Foreign affairs commission, has valued the announcement, which was previously told by the president Michelle Bachelet, when she stated the intention of accepting ‚Äúan important group‚ÄĚ of Syrian. Also she reminded: ‚Äúthese people is running away from a war and a criminal organization, alluding to the Islamic State.

In addition Tarud said ‚Äúit is not enough to participate of peace missions sending armed forces. Although it is important to have supportive expressions receiving this people who are escaping from the crisis. We have suggested at least 100 families, hopefully with children, because they are the most vulnerable on this humanitarian crisis‚ÄĚ.

Finally, the representative, explained that because of these people are consider as ‚Äúrefugees‚ÄĚ, the most part of the costs would be assume by the United Nations. Thus, our country expenditures would be the less. Essentially it will be an inclusion program to help them to learn the language and to access to the labor system. ‚ÄúThere is a small Syrian community in Chile and they are ready to help. He pointed out.
