The main Norwegian bank, Nordea, announced that this year, the Salmon’s worldwide supply will be impacted, due to the massive mortality occurred in our country, seemingly linked to blooming of toxic seaweed.

34 farming centers, were contaminated by this deadly algal bloom. The salmon industry estimated that more than 27 million salmons have died.

According to Undercurrent News, ” Atlantic salmon mortalities in Chile will represent a 6.8% supply contraction in 2016 and a 1.6% decrease in 2017″.

In regards to the estimations, Nordea stated ” We expect the effect will be a massive re-pricing, first for Chilean salmon in the US and Brazil, and then in Europe, bringing prices not seen since the 1980s”.
