Senator Ricardo Lagos Weber (PPD), assumed on Tuesday as the successor of Patricio Walker at the presidency of the Chilean Senate. The new president pronounced a speech, related to the legitimacy crisis of the Congress.

The son of the ex-president Ricardo Lagos, broached the need of facing the crisis of trust in the Congress, ” few times so deep like in the present”, he pointed out.

Hence, he mentioned the necessity of restitution of the revocation referendum, measure that allows citizens to have the power of repeal laws and dismiss politicians from charges of popular election.

The new president of the Senate, highlighted that this 2016 “should be the inflection point“, in regards to the citizens.

Additionally, as vicepresident of the Senate, assumed Jaime Quintana(PPD), who left the presidency of his party.
