After the 8.4 magnitude quake which has shocked the north zone of the country, Margareta Wahlström, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction of the United Nations, has congratulated the Chilean Government because of the successfully efforts in order to reduce the victims on facing natural disasters.

Wahlström has praised the Chilean inversions on resilient infrastructure, earlier alert systems and urban planning which have achieved a below number of deaths afterwards the tremor intensity.

In addition she remarked that the earlier alerts provided by the emergency organisms were very efficient saving lives, as an example the proper board coast´s evacuation of more than a million people has prevented from several human loss, as it happened five years ago when 523 people died.
