This week will begin the new year and a also the increase of the minimum wage in Chile.

From January 1st of 2016, the minimum wage will reach the $250.000 pesos monthly (almost US$375 per month). This amount is valid for workers older than 18 and until 65 years old.

This means an increase of $9000 pesos (US$12) in respect to the current minimum wage.

The rise was regulated this week by the N°20763 law, which was published on July 18th of 2014.

On the other hand, regarding to the minimum wage of people older than 65 and younger than 18, the salary will reach $186631 (nearly US$266 monthly)
