A través de un comunicado de prensa, la banda Kasabian se refirió por primera vez a la agresión de su ahora exvocalista Tom Meighan hacia su pareja, luego que este fuese condenado a realizar trabajos comunitarios por un tribunal de Leicester.

“Todos hemos trabajado muy duro en los últimos 23 años y teníamos grandes planes para nuestro futuro juntos. Estamos desolados, pero nos quedamos sin otra opción que pedirle a Tom que se marchase de la banda”, se lee en el texto.

La marginación de Meighan de la banda se produjo un día antes que la denuncia de Vikki Age, víctima de la agresión, se hiciera pública. Allí, el vocalista argumentó “motivos personales” y la intención de “volver a encarrilar su vida” para abandonar el grupo.

“No hay manera alguna que podamos condonar esta sentencia por agresión. La violencia doméstica y el abuso de cualquier tipo son totalmente inaceptables”, recalcaron los ingleses.

“En cuanto nos enteramos de los cargos contra Tom nosotros como banda tomamos la decisión de que no podíamos trabajar más con él. Desafortunadamente, teníamos que retener esta información hasta que él fuese declarado culpable en el tribunal”, agregaron.

Ayer, un tribunal de Leicester condenó al músico de 39 años a 200 horas de servicio comunitario por la agresión a su novia, ocurrida el 9 de abril.

Con la salida de Meighan, el grupo de rock originado en 1997 quedó conformado por el guitarrista Sergio Pizzorno y el bajista Chris Edwards como únicos miembros fundadores, además del batería Ian Matthews que se unió en 2004.

Now that the legal proceedings have been concluded, we can comment on the departure of Tom Meighan from Kasabian. No one in the band wanted this to happen. We have all worked so hard for the past twenty three years and had big plans for our future together. We’re completely heartbroken. But we were left with no choice but to ask Tom to leave the band. There is absolutely no way we can condone his assault conviction. Domestic violence and abuse of any kind is totally unacceptable. As soon as we found out about the charges made against Tom, we as a band made the decision that we could no longer work with him. Unfortunately we had to hold back this information until he was found guilty in court. We were led to believe that Tom would hold his hands up and in his statement tell everyone what he’d done but he chose not to, misleading a lot of fans. Ultimately, as much as Tom has hurt us all, we’re not the victim in all of this. Domestic violence is something that can never be excused. Thank for your support at this difficult time.
