The Defense Minister, Jorge Burgos, confirmed the death of an official of the Chilean Navy, victim of shots during peace missions that heads the UN in Haiti.

The sergeant second-class Andres Rodrigo Sanhueza Soto (35), married with two chidren, who was serving in the Chile Battalion of the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (Minustah).

According to the minister, the situation happened at 13:50 Haiti time (14:50 in Chile) and while sergeant Sanhueza took part in the safety of a military team, which moved near the border with the Dominican Republic, they received shootings while confronting a demonstration.

One of the bullets struck the Chilean Navy, who was transferred to facilities of the Uruguayan battalion. Despite first aid, the sergeant died there, at 14:14 Haiti time (15:15 in Chile).
