Germany will disclose the files between 1986 and 1996, about Colonia Dignidad (Colony Dignity). The community was founded by Paul Schäfer, an ex member of the nazi party. It was a secret detention camp, where countless tortures and sexual abuses were perpetrated during the dictatorship.
The announcement was communicated on Tuesday by the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
“I have ordered documents about the colony until 1996 to be unclassified for research purposes”, stated the diplomat in Berlín, after the promotion of the “Colony” movie, about Bavaria Village.
Additionally, Steinmeier expressed regret, because according to him, the diplomats of his country failed for years to act on abuses perpetrated inside the secretive colony in Chile.
Colonia Dignidad was home to almost three hundred German residents.
