34 farming centers, were contaminated by this deadly algal bloom. The salmon industry estimated that more than 27 million salmons have died.

According to Undercurrent News, ” Atlantic salmon mortalities in Chile will represent a 6.8% supply contraction in 2016 and a 1.6% decrease in 2017″.

In regards to the estimations, Nordea stated ” We expect the effect will be a massive re-pricing, first for Chilean salmon in the US and Brazil, and then in Europe, bringing prices not seen since the 1980s”.
