The first vaccine in the world against the human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a virus of high incidence rate worldwide, was developed by Chilean scientists. The experts have scheduled its launching for 4 more years.

The Syncytial Virus is responsible of thousands deaths and hospitalizations of breastfes every year in the world due to it causes respiratory tract infections.

In Chile, during the winter season, 8 out of every 10 hospitalizations of children by 2 -3 years of age are because of the infection of the syncytial virus . On the other hand, every year the State expenses to fight against this virus surpass the 9400 million pesos.
