The Sport Minister, Natalia Riffo, confirmed today Chile’s absence in the route of the 2016 edition of the Dakar Rally.

After 7 years in a row as being part of the hardest out-track rally of the world, including 2 years in a row as the finishing line of the competence in 2013 and 2014, the executive preferred to allocate the resources to the reconstruction of the North Area after the catastrophe because of the rains and consecutive landslides.

In this way the Atacama Desert, the area that had become habitual in the trace and a characteristic picture of the South American edition of the race will not be present, as it was announced yesterday.

‘Today we confirm together with the Dakar Organization that it will not go through Chile in 2016. Mostly, due to the situation going on at the moment at the North of the country. There are no conditions for people to solve their problems about health, housing and connection, and the Organization understood it’, explained the Sport Minister.
